From 1 January 2025, more women will be able to be screened for breast cancer

The age limits for the target population for the Breast Cancer Screening Programme have been extended from 2025-01-01. The Breast Cancer Prevention Programme is aimed at women aged 45 to 74 years (inclusive), who are eligible for mammography screening once every 2 years. After receiving a referral from a family doctor for a mammography examination, it is possible to register in advance (either by coming in or by telephone) at a health care facility with a mammography machine that has a contract with the territorial health insurance fund. The results of the test are communicated by the family doctor after they have been received from the institution that evaluates the mammograms.

This prevention programme is aimed at female patients of a certain age. However, if you feel unwell but do not fall into the age group, contact your GP. Mammographic breast screening can detect disease that cannot yet be felt or palpated!

As a reminder, there are five disease prevention programmes in Lithuania, paid for by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund: cervical cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
