The project "Prevention of prostate cancer in target groups through early diagnosis" is being implemented at the Kėdainiai PSPC.
The aim is to strengthen the prevention of prostate cancer in men in the Kėdainiai district by means of early diagnosis in target groups. The project is financed by the Kėdainiai District Municipality.
During the project period, prostate-specific antigen testing (PAS) is carried out in men of younger age and outside the Ministry of Health's defined preventive age groups. This helps to identify members of the target group with pathological prostate lesions. It also organises the dissemination of preventive information to the target group.
The project plans to involve 200 men who are younger and/or outside the Ministry of Health's defined preventive age groups. The activities are implemented in cooperation with Kėdainiai district elderships and communities, enabling the service to be provided closer to the villagers' place of residence. Methodological information on the prevention of prostate cancer is being prepared and/or disseminated during the implementation of the project. The implementation of the project will increase the uptake and implementation of early diagnosis and prevention measures for prostate cancer in men of younger age in Kėdainiai district and other men who do not fall into the age groups established by the Ministry of Health, and will help to develop the skills of preventive behaviour among the target groups.
Around 50% of the project's target group have already participated in the June-July campaign. Of these, about 5% of men have been found to have elevated levels of a specific antigen in their blood and have been referred for further testing by specialists.
