What is essential to have in a travel first aid kit?
It's a good idea to have a first aid kit before your trip - it should help with minor illnesses or injuries. According to Lina Kiliene, a paediatrician at Kėdainiai PSPC, here's what you should have in it:
- Pain and temperature medicines: ibuprofen, paracetamol.
- For sore throats, take tablets with menthol, eucalyptus or vitamin C.
- Medicines to improve digestion: enzymes, medicines for diarrhoea, bloating, heartburn, probiotics.
- Anti-nausea measures: ginger tablets or special bracelets, especially when travelling by car, bus, boat or plane.
- Allergy medication - even non-allergic people can react sensitively to insect bites, plants or unusual foods.
- Insect repellents and ointments to suppress reactions after bites.
- Sunscreen: a cream with SPF 50, as well as an after-sun cream or foam (e.g. with dexpanthenol).
- Ointments for bruises or sprains, cooling sprays, plasters, bindis and wound dressings.
- If you take regular medication (e.g. for diabetes, epilepsy, allergies), take enough for the whole trip. When travelling abroad, especially by plane, carry copies of prescriptions too.
- When travelling with children, a thermometer and medicines for fever (syrup and suppositories).
A well-planned first aid kit will help you feel safe and prepared for any situation!
