On World Diabetes Day, people aged 60+ were invited to take part in free tests!

On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, on 14 November, people aged over 60 were invited to visit the Pelėdnagiai outpatient clinic, where Danutė Šilkaitienė, a health education organiser/general nurse, tested total cholesterol and capillary blood glucose levels, calculated body mass index after estimating height and weight, measured arterial blood pressure, measured waist and hip circumference and calculated the waist-hip ratio. Informative educational material was distributed on health promotion, physical activity, identification and control of disease risk factors and other relevant topics.

Patients with higher than recommended levels of total cholesterol or glucose in their capillary blood (more than half of the subjects) were referred for a more detailed venous test. After assessing not only the blood test results but also other risk factors for cardiovascular disease (arterial blood pressure, body mass index, risk of abdominal obesity), patients were referred to Simona Ulerytė, a lifestyle medicine specialist, if indicated.

These services are provided within the framework of the programme "Prevention of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases in the target groups through early diagnosis", financed by the Kėdainiai District Municipality. The project aims to strengthen the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus in the target group of people in Kėdainiai district through early diagnosis. It is aimed at people outside the age groups defined by the Ministry of Health as preventive groups.
