The Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Center invites women to participate in a cervical cancer prevention project
The Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Center (Kėdainių PSPC), a public institution funded by the Kėdainiai District Municipality, is implementing the project “Prevention of Cervical Cancer in Target Groups Through Early Diagnostic Measures.”
The goal of the project is to strengthen cervical cancer prevention among the target group of women by providing access to early-detection screenings for those women who are not eligible for funding under national prevention programs.
Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, but the development of the disease can be successfully prevented if precancerous changes are detected early. For this reason, preventive screenings and early diagnosis are among the most effective measures for protecting women’s health.
The project is intended for:
- women under the age of 25 for whom cervical screenings are not yet covered under the national preventive care program;
- For patients who have tested positive for human papillomavirus (HPV), the costs of any necessary additional tests are not covered by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund.
About 50 percent ofthe planned participants have already taken part in the project. The results of the tests confirm the importance of the project—cervical abnormalities requiring further examination or medical supervision were detected in about 20 percent ofthe women. These data demonstrate once again that early diagnosis allows for the detection of the disease at an early stage and enables the timely implementation of necessary treatment measures.
The Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Center invites women who meet the project’s target group criteria to take advantage of this opportunity to undergo the necessary screenings and take care of their health. Early diagnosis offers the chance to detect changes in a timely manner, prevent the progression of disease, and maintain quality of life.
