World Hepatitis Day is observed on July 28, and this year’s theme is “Hepatitis: Let’s Beat It.”
As part of this initiative,the Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Centeris organizing community outreach events during which rapid tests for hepatitis B and C, HIV, and other conditions are administered. These initiatives help detect potential infections early and provide access to specialist consultations and information about further assistance and treatment.
Preventive activities are carried out undertheKėdainiai Primary Health Care Center’sprogramsto strengthen low-threshold services, which are funded by the Kėdainiai District Municipality and the National Center for Addiction Disorders.
Results for the first half of 2026:
✅ Visits were made to 6 project partner institutions and organizations;
✅ 126 rapid screening tests were conducted (for hepatitis B and C, HIV, etc.);
✅ About 5% of the tests were positive for hepatitis C;
✅ About 2% were positive for hepatitis B.
During a campaign held today at the Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Center,16 people underwentrapid tests for hepatitis B and C, HIV, and other conditions.
Disease prevention specialists urge people not to delay and to take care of their health. Early detection of viral hepatitis allows for timely treatment and reduces the risk of serious liver diseases, including liver cancer.
It is recommended to get tested for hepatitis B and C:
• for individuals who received a blood transfusion or blood products before 1993;
• if liver enzymes are elevated for unknown reasons;
• healthcare workers who come into contact with blood or other bodily fluids;
• pregnant women;
• children whose mothers had hepatitis B or C during pregnancy or childbirth;
• individuals with a family member diagnosed with hepatitis B or C;
• those who have had multiple sexual partners;
• people living with HIV;
• those who have injected drugs at least once;
• former inmates.
We would like to remind you that in Lithuania, residents born between 1945 and 1994 who are not classified as being in a high-risk group, as well as individuals in certain high-risk groups, can get testedfor hepatitis C free of charge. For more information, please contact your family doctor.
