At the School of Motherhood: Knowledge, Practice, and Community for Families

Theoretical and practical sessions for the “Promoting a Healthy Start in Life” program, funded by the Kėdainiai District Municipality, have begun at the Maternity School. The first sessions were attended by expectant parents and parents of young children seeking to gain useful knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care.

Theoretical Session. The first lecture—a discussion titled “Nine Months of Waiting” Viktorija Kvedaravičienė, a midwife at the Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Center, discussed the most important stages of pregnancy, physical and emotional changes, the principles of healthy eating, the use of vitamins and dietary supplements, and the benefits of physical activity. The lecturer emphasized that during pregnancy, it is important to listen to the signals your body sends, set aside time for rest, avoid stress, choose skin care products responsibly, and always consult a doctor regarding the use of medications and supplements.

Participants also learned how to properly prepare for childbirth, what items to pack for the hospital, and what signs indicate that it is time to go to the hospital.

Practical Exercises.Along with the lecture series at the Motherhood School, exercise and massage sessions for parents and babies have also begun, led by physical therapist Jurga Dovydavičienė. During these sessions, parents learn how to safely exercise and massage their little ones, better understand their needs, and strengthen their bond. According to the instructor, regular exercise and massage promote a baby’s physical development, improve muscle tone, coordination, sleep, and digestion, and help reduce discomfort caused by colic. It’s wonderful to see dads actively participating in the exercise sessions—together with their little ones, they perform the exercises, learn the basics of massage, and strengthen their emotional bond with their children.

Danutė Šilkaitienė, director of the Maternity School, is delighted with the participants’ active engagement and reminds everyone that the program’s sessions are open to all expectant parents, parents raising young children, and anyone interested in topics related to pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care. During these sessions, participants not only gain expert knowledge and practical skills but also have the opportunity to share their experiences and ask questions that concern them. Program participants will also have the opportunity to receive individual consultations with specialists.

At the end of the first theoretical session, participants were presented with useful publications on pregnancy, healthy eating, and preparing for the birth of a baby, which were purchased with funds from the program. The gift bags also included products from GENBA PHARMA.
