The Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Center cares about women's health—not just in October.
However, Pink October is a great opportunity to remind ourselves once again of one of the most important things we sometimes put off: taking care of our health and getting checked in a timely manner. October is recognized worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention Month. The pink ribbon serves as a reminder of what matters most— to be aware, to get checked, and, if you notice any changes, to see a doctor without delay. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. However, when detected early, treatment outcomes can be very good— up to 85–95 percent of women recover.
When can you get a free screening? Lithuania has a government-funded breast cancer prevention program:
• Women aged 45–74 are eligible for a free mammogram;
• The screening is performed every 2 years;
• To participate in the program, please contact your family doctor.
If you are between the ages of 45 and 74 and have not yet received an invitation for a screening, ask your family doctor. Get to know your body. Regardless of your age, it is important to pay attention to changes in your breasts. You should see a doctor if you notice:
• a new lump or hardening in the breast or armpit;
• a change in the shape, size, or contour of the breast;
• dimpling, wrinkling, or redness of the skin;
• nipple retraction or other changes to the nipple;
• unusual discharge from the nipple, especially if it is bloody.
Have you noticed a change? Don’t wait—see a doctor. Take care of yourself this October.
Or better yet—remind your mom, sister, daughter, or friend about this. Sometimes a single reminder can prompt a step that’s crucial to your health. Kėdainiai Primary Health Care Center—let’s take care of our health together and in a timely manner.
