The State Patients' Fund under the Ministry of Health is running a public awareness campaign "Turn back the disease". The campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage people to take advantage of disease prevention programmes reimbursed by the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (CHIF), to encourage people not to be indifferent to their health, not to rely on fate, and to make use of all the opportunities offered to them to get screened.
There are 5 disease prevention programmes in Lithuania: cervical, breast, prostate, colorectal cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
Most often, people refuse to take part in free programmes for early diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular diseases because they do not feel the need to do so and because they feel healthy. Other reasons include the perception that it is too early to look for diseases, not wanting to waste time, not seeing the point.
The slogan "Turn back the disease" sends a clear message - that all you need to do to avoid potential health problems is to take action before the disease strikes. Given the high profile of disease prevention programmes, the main objective of this campaign is to encourage the population to take action - to have preventive health checks.
